the path to change begins with the courage to take the first step
What is psychotherapy?
It is the treatment of the human soul and as such it is the treatment of the core of your humanity.
I use concepts from transactional analysis, systemic therapy and coaching, acceptance and commitment therapy, Buddhist psychotherapy, etc.
What to expect
Phase I
The beginnin
Send me an e-mail , give me a call or send me a text message.
We make an appointment in the practice for a first session in which we discuss your concerns, get to know each other and perhaps even formulate a rough goal (make no mistake, you may end up with something completely different than you came with). For example, one goal may be to explore a current burn-out, find out the reasons for it and develop ways out of the crisis.
If we get on, have built up trust and feel that we can work well together, we may already agree to a series of 5 – 10 sessions and have fixed appointments.
Phase II
The middle part or the hard work
During therapy, you may experience a rollercoaster of emotions. Initially you may feel enthusiastic and upbeat, then, as we approach some unpleasant and painful issues, you may feel worse for a while. We may also reframe goals as new/suppressed issues arise. This can be quite normal and is a sign of stuff shifting. You may want to quit or run away. That’s okay, and we’ll discuss how you can deal with it.
Phase III
After the hard work
Once you’ve ‘bottomed out’, you’ll feel stronger and ready to face the changes. Do not be afraid of the new you!
At this point, you can stop therapy for good or take a break from therapy and come back for a ‘check-in’ a few weeks or months later. I recommend this, because it helps integrate changes, discuss setbacks (they happen, they are normal and part of the journey) and make adjustments.
